The Leaky Cauldron in Diagon Alley is one of my favorite places, possibly my favorite place, to eat at Universal Orlando. On a recent trip I got to try a couple more of their lunch options, so check out you may want to try for a Leaky Cauldron lunch.
The Leaky Cauldron has a fairly large menu by quick-service restaurant standards, and it’s definitely one of the most unique quick-service restaurants in Universal’s theme parks with British-inspired dishes that fit the theme of the Wizarding World.
The first time I saw the Specialty Chicken Sandwich on the menu, I didn’t think it sounded too exciting compared to other options like Cottage Pie and Bangers & Mash, but after hearing good things about it I decided to give it a try. The sandwich comes with chicken, cheddar cheese, tomatoes, and bacon.
For a bland-sounding option, the Specialty Chicken Sandwich is actually quite good. It’s flavorful and the chicken is surprisingly juicy – many napkins were required. The portion is also large, with plenty of chips. This is actually a solid, filling dish that could be a good choice for guests who prefer standard American-style flavors.
I also gave the Pear Cider a try – it’s one of the non-specialty drink options available. It does taste fairly similar to apple cider (which they also serve) but milder. It was a sweet, refreshing addition to lunch.
Later in the trip I was back at the Leaky Cauldron for lunch again, and this time I gave the Ploughman’s Platter a try. This is a sampler platter that is usually designed for two people, but you can also purchase a portion for one. It includes: English Cheese, Crusty Bread, Field Green Salad, Oven Roasted Tomatoes, Cornichon Pickles, Apple & Beet Salad, Branston Pickle, and Scotch Eggs. A Scotch Egg is a hard-boiled egg wrapped in sausage meat, breaded, and fried. Even with the Scotch Egg, this felt like a lighter option, good for a hot day and with lots of different items to try.
For dessert I also tried the Chocolate Potted Cream, an adorable little dessert that comes in a lidded jar. The chocolate had cherries mixed into it, and the flavor reminded me of Black Forest cake. It was smooth and rich and delicious.
