Walt Disney World is the perfect place for kids at heart, and that includes 90s kids wanting to enjoy the films they grew up watching. Here are my favorite Walt Disney World attractions for 90s nostalgia.
There are plenty of attractions available that celebrate Disney’s incredible films from the early 1990s, which are the films I grew up watching. For fans of The Little Mermaid, you have quite a few choices – there’s Voyage of the Little Mermaid, a musical show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Under the Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid, an audio-animatronic dark ride at the Magic Kingdom. Near the latter, you can also meet Ariel herself to discuss dinglehoppers and snarfblatts.
We watched our VHS of The Lion King until we just about wore it out. Fans of this film will love Festival of the Lion King, a musical variety show at Disney’s Animal Kingdom that celebrates the characters, art, and music of the film with singing, dancing, acrobatics, and more.
And of course, there’s my favorite Disney film of all time – Beauty and the Beast. Walt Disney World only recently gained attractions centered around this film, but they’re a great way to feel like you’re visiting the world of Beauty and the Beast. Enchanted Tales with Belle is an immersive character experience where guests get to visit Maurice’s cottage and go through the magic mirror to the castle. Guests then get to help Belle and Lumiere re-enact the story from the film, complete with a photo-op for children afterwards.
You can also enjoy a dinner in the castle at Be Our Guest Restaurant, where you can dine in the ballroom or the west wing – reservations are in very high demand for obvious reasons, so book as early as possible.
You’re less likely to find attractions revolving around Disney films from the late 1990s such as Mulan, Hercules, Pocahontas, and Tarzan. You can find a few of these characters available to meet, though. Mulan typically greets guests in the China Pavilion, and for the moment you can find Pocahontas and Tarzan at Disney’s Animal Kingdom (it’s possible Tarzan will not be at Animal Kingdom long, though you can usually also find him at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, as well).
The ultimate of the Walt Disney World attractions for 90s nostalgia, though, is the Magic Kingdom’s new nighttime spectacular, Happily Ever After. This incredible show combines amazing pyrotechnics with stunning projections on Cinderella Castle to create a show highlighting classic Disney storytelling and favorite characters.
In addition to that, it includes great moments from 90s favorites such as The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Tarzan, Mulan, and even films like Hercules and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. It’s a fantastic show for 90s kids who remember the Disney characters and music they grew up with.
